Fiber and Fun FAQ

What age should my daughter be to attend Fiber and Fun?

We accept girls ages 8 -12 and we gear our projects to the skill level of this age group, it works out great!

My daughter doesn’t have any sewing experience, will she be able to handle the projects?

Yes! We have 3 instructors and often break down into smaller groups for the more ambitious projects to provide lots of help and supervision for those who need it.

My daughter already knows how to sew, will she be too advanced for the projects?

No! We design all our projects so the more experienced campers can do more and add more detail to their projects if they like.

We have a sewing machine, should my daughter bring it to camp?

Yes! If she would like to. It is a great way for her to get more experience sewing on the machine she will be using after camp. We set up 1 machine for every 2 girls, so she will be expected to share her machine if she brings it.

We don’t have a sewing machine, can my daughter still come to camp?

Yes! We have machines available for her to use. Beware though, she will be begging you to buy one after camp!!!!!

What skills do you teach?

We introduce all the girls to the basics of machine sewing along with hand sewing, embroidery, and felting.

What kind of things do you make?

We add new projects every year, but past projects include pillows, recycled jean purses, wet felted portraits, mobiles, upcycled pillow case tops. If you’d like to see more pictures , check out our flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/feltedheart/

Can my daughter sign up for more than one session of FAF?

Yes! We understand and think there is no such thing as too much sewing time! But bear in mind we do the same projects all 3 weeks so it will be up to her to add more and do more as she repeats projects. We design our projects to allow lots of creative freedom, so this works out fine.

What is your student teacher ratio?

We have 16 campers per session and 3 instructors. We often break into 3 groups for personalized instruction.

How long have you been doing FAF?

This is our 4th year! We love it!

Fiber and Fun 2010

We got a little silly, we made some new friends, we kept some of the old, we did some sewing, learned some new skills, put on a few plays, sang some songs and ate some popsicles this year at Fiber and Fun. Thanks again to all these great girls who show us their talent and inspire us in so many ways and let us play with needle and thread and scraps and colored pencils again!

See all the pictures from 2 weeks of camp here.

We’ll be using this online tutorial as our guide

Sewing straight seams
Topstitching

You will need:
3/4 yd each of 2 coordinating lightweight cotton fabrics
Matching thread

Punch Cards: the Wave of the Future

We know you are busy people.

(We're pretty busy too.)

So we've come up with a new way to handle the sewing class schedule and we're pretty excited about it.

The answer is: punch cards.

If you are interested in taking a sewing class but can't commit to 4 weeks in a row, now you have a solution. You can buy a punch card that entitles you to 4 sessions at Felted Heart Studio and then you come when you can. If you need to miss a week, or have a sick child, no problem, you just skip that week.

Punch card classes are on Thursday nights from 6:30 - 9:00 starting April 15th. Since classes are small and two instructors will be on hand every week, we are going to be accomodating all levels during this class. So whether or not you are a beginner who needs to start at square one, or an advanced sewer who needs help with some specific projects, this schedule will suit your needs.

We also have learned over the past year that our students have different ideas about what they would like to learn and accomplish during class. So in the next weeks we will be posting project ideas here on the blog complete with a supply list so you can pick a project, purchase supplies and come to class prepared. Just use the search bar on the side of the blog to search for "projects" and you will see what the options are.

Price for 4 sessions is $200
